Staff spotlight
With function season on the horizon we catch up with Lucy, our Senior Event Manager. Get to know about her background, her favourites and her role here at Food Envy.
Share a little bit about yourself, your background and any defining moments that lead you to where you are today…
I was born and raised in Yorkshire, England. I started my working life at 15 as a waitress in a restaurant where I caught the feels for hospitality!
A born performer, I studied performance theatre at university whilst still working in the hospo scene, leading me to work in hotels where I gained experience in conference and events.
A trip across the pond to Australia and New Zealand post uni led me to meeting my now husband, he's neither Aussie or Kiwi but a fine Scotsman! Sharing our love of the country we met in, we jumped at the chance to come back and live in NZ. Here we are 10 years later!
What does your typical day look like?
Every day is different, which is what I love about events! No two clients or events are the same which keeps you on your toes. I love meeting new clients and working again with old ones too. Same with all the venues we cater at, we get to work in some amazing places and create some really special events.
What do you love about events?
Weddings are my jam! I love being a part of someone's special day and making sure everything is perfect for the couple and their guests.
What can people expect when they work with Food Envy for their events?
People can expect to have the best experience a catering company can offer. We don't only do deliciously amazing food, we are the whole package. We’ll deliver catering to offices in a city where traffic is a constant problem, to fully serviced events where we manage all the food, drinks, staff, set up and everything from start to finish.
Where is your favourite place to dine at in Wellington and why?
I had a banging steak at Wolf recently, and Ortega is always a good shout for anything seafood-y, love their prawn linguine! Nicolini's has a special place in my heart for all things Italian and the service there is so personal, you feel like family from the moment you arrive.
What are your favourite items off the menu at the moment?
The kumara kiev on the dinner menu is to die for, I could drink a pint of that garlic butter! And as always, our buttermilk fried chicken bites are a classic.
